FORESTRY SERVICES
Experts in Forestry Management
Reader Forest Management offers a full range of forestry services. Below is a list of just some of the forestry management services we offer:
Forest Management Plans
For Maine Tree Growth Tax Law, NH Current Use, NRCS cost-share plans, or just general planning, these plans are great tools to to outline the current condition of a woodlot, and make educated prescriptions based on those conditions and the landowner’s objectives. These can also be combined with a timber inventory (cruise) to derive timber volumes and values.
Boundary Line Reconnaissance and Maintenance
Our first step when working on a new property is to locate and flag the boundary lines. Our staff is well versed in locating physical evidence on the ground, such as corner markers, and boundary lines that can consist of blazes, old wire fence, stonewalls, etc., often with out a survey. We can also GPS the corners and produce maps using aerial photos.
Timber Cruising
Estimating Timber Volumes and Valuation can be important for income tax depletion, estate planning, or just knowing how much timber you have on a lot. This is something that should be done when acquiring a piece of forest land, as well if you are selling forestland.
Mapping
By using GPS and ArcMap software with color aerial photos, we are able to produce professional looking maps, that can be customized for the landowner.
Timber Harvest Administration
Start to finish, from marking the boundary lines, and trees to harvest, all contracts, permits, etc. and supervising the job until completion. We are the sole contact person for the landowner, and we routinely check in with the landowner to make sure they are happy with every aspect of the job. Both the logger and us understand that we are working for the landowner and their satisfaction is our #1 goal.
Forest Products Marketing
RFM intensively markets all the woods products harvested, giving us a good handle on the markets. Since RFM receives a percentage, we have incentive to get the most money for the landowner, as opposed to just selling to the closest mill. If there is high quality timber, we may show it to one or several mills to derive the best mill price.
Timber Trespass Valuation
We can determine the amount of damage and penalty with a timber trespass. We find and measure all the stumps in the trespass area, and then either use a penalty based on stump diameters or we can estimate the actual amount of timber taken.
